Ka'Tock sat in what is now called his Ready Room; he had the larger and more comfortable chair behind the desk; Bat'leth in reach of the desk behind him. The framed crayon drawings from a younger Mitah also on the walls as well as a Holo of his son on his desk.
He had a PADD in hand; six more on his desk and this is just his schedule to be done by Noon. They were not yet out of refit and Space Dock and he had more paperwork than he thought possible.
On a rolling cart he had both Rakijino and tea with some breakfast pastries. It would be a good host for his New Command; not much different from his counselor days; he would conduct himself in meetings not so far from sessions aside from ship business replacing emotional exploration and compensation.
The PADD he read was on the tactical specifications of the ship, he already had intimate knowledge of her handling and all he need do is think of the Maneuvering and firing of weapons. He had done that in the Empire so he could ; in theory, have the experience to convey his combat orders well... In Theory.
It was part of what he had to do as the Commanding Officer so he would study it and do some simulations while docked to get practice.
Amber was secretly amused that Ka'Tock was now in command. She didn't doubt his competence, but she did appreciate the irony of a pacifistic Klingon duelist as the new commander. And she appreciated not having to deal with Daniel. She was mostly over him, but she was still grateful for the break.
She paused at the door and rang the chime.
"Open Door..." Ka'Tock had to start thinking of his new position rather than the open door of a counselor. "Come in." He added.
"Hello, commander," Amber said. "How are you settling in?
"Commander Quinn, It is larger than my Old Office." Ka'Tock stood as she entered. "I admit the Command has not hit me yet as we are still in dock." He gestured to the sofa. "Please take a seat."
Amber sat down on the sofa. "I can honestly say I'm glad it's your office and not mine."
"And I thought we were friends before you said that." Ka'Tock chuckled. "Let us say I had dreams of it for a time in the Empire, but never thought I would see command of a Federation Vessel."
"As you know, I never wanted to be more than a science officer. But neither of us are in complete control of our destinies."
"Or Destiny had bigger plans than we suspect?" Ka'Tock nod. "Would you like some raktajino or Tea?" He motioned to the
"In my case, destiny is spelled DANIEL." She gave him a half smile. "I'll take some tea if it's herbal."
Xander walked up to the ready room, rang the chime and waited to be called to enter.
"Come in." Ka'Tock gave his permission and watched as the Science Chief entered.
"I'm sorry I'm so late. It took me time to find someone to relieve me on the bridge. So, what are we all talking about?" Oroyo asked.
"Have a seat Lieutenant." Ka'Tock offered the other seat. "We were just chatting about destiny and such before you came in." He nod. "You have not missed the Official conversation. Ka'Tock gesture to the small cart. "Racktajino or Tea before we start?"
"That's about as far as we got," Amber added with a smile.
"I'll have a french vanilla Raktajino extra sweet, thank you, Counselor. But, I fail to see why I've been summoned here. And also why our counselor is here as well especially without the captain," Oroyo questioned obviously confused by the entire situation of having been called to the ready room with no captain.
"I think it is time we bring you up to speed on events." Ka'Tock said as he rose to prepared the special drink. "You should take the offered seat." He almost chuckled while adding the vanilla to the Racktajino with double the usual sweetener before setting it back across the desk near Oroyo. "The captain is in the Ready Room." Ka'tock took his own seat. "There has been a field promotion by the Admiralty." Ka'Tock gave a slight grin. "You no longer have a Counselor on the Aurora."
Xander was completely floored by this revelation. He was unsure how to respond. "Excuse me?! Starfleet Command promoted a lieutenant, jg to Captain? I find that hard to believe. Whose bright idea was that? Commander Quinn, were you on board with this?" Xander said quite perturbed by all this.
"Actually, he was a lieutenant," Amber said. "He was promoted while we were...away. He just received a field promotion to lieutenant commander. He was already on track for a command position, they just accelerated it." She couldn't help grinning. "As for me, I'm fine with it. I don't want the job."
"Lieutenant..." Ka'Tock sat up and lean closer, losing his Counselor expression for one of a Warrior. "If you wish to challenge my being put in command there are ways to settle this." He said slowly and gave a warning glance. "Call the Admiral and lodge a complaint and I am supposing if you do challenge you will be willing to take the repercussions of that decision?" He raised an eyebrow. "In the Empire or in Star Fleet I am sure that the Admiralty are over-joyed to have their decisions questioned?"
