"Open a channel to that ship," Amber said.
"Channel open."
"This is Commander Amber Quinn, first officer of the USS Aurora."
Lieutenant Xander Oroyo waited with baited breath for someone to answer. He was looking forward to seeing Earth again and even his home world, Ornora, again as he hasn't been back since he joined Starfleet much to his parents' dismay. They didn't want to lose both their sons to some war or fight. Neither or them understood the reasons why Xander had run away from Ornara in the first place; their people had been freed from their addition to felicium a decade ago and thus had cut all ties their sister planet.
Xander didn't even know his twin brother had joined Starfleet in order to find him. He had no idea about his family's desire to see him again or that they didn't even know he had gone missing in the Beta Quadrant.
The viewscreen flickered on. "This is Commodore Akeno Misaki of the Starship Harekaze" Akeno replied. The red haired woman smiled at them. "Nice to see you're all alive" she added. "We're getting ready to send of Engineering and Medical teams to assist your crew, luckily for you, we're also only about twenty lightyears from the Sol System. A day or two and you'll be back on Earth" she added.
"Excellent," Amber said. "Admiral, if you have some time, I would also like to speak to you about Captain Westphalen."
Oroyo looked over at Quinn when she said that and looked more than a little nervous. He had been concerned about the captain as well and despite the fact that he didn't know the captain all that well. He didn't know how to act with his absence. But, he thought Commander Quinn had done and excellent job in taking over for him, in his untrained opinion.
Akeno nodded. "Beam over and meet me in the ready room" she replied simply.
When the call ended, Amber opened a ship-wide channel. "This is Commander Quinn. As you no doubt figured out, we're home. We've got a welcome committee who will escort us to the nearrest starbase for repairs. At that time, I'll authorize shoreleave. Good job, everyone. Quinn out."
"Engineering to bridge" Azusa's voice sounded over the comm. "We sustained some engine damage so our maximum speed is warp four. Its going to be a few hours until we can get anything higher. Sorry for delaying us slightly..."
"No worries. We'll go at Warp 4 until we reach a safe place to stop."
Amber turned to Xander. "I'm going to talk with the Admiral. You have the bridge."
"Aye, Commander," was all Xander could say. He was relieved to be home again and even more pleased to be within striking distance from Ornara. He just might have to sneak away home to see his parents.
As he moved from his station, he logged into the Starfleet registry and tried to find out where his brother was stationed. He missed his family terribly but never thought in a million years he might have to opportunity to see them again and explain why he left them. He also was choking back tears to show the rest of the bridge crew that he was at the top of his game.
All in all, he was an emotional wreck inside.
[Transporter Room]
Amber beamed over to the Admiral's ship, PADD in hand, to explain what was going on with the captain. Or what little she knew about what was going on.
Ka'Tock was standing by at the Transporter Room when Quinn transported across. He had taken the time to straighten his Uniform considering he had just flown a shuttle through a tunnel Sling Shot type occurrence. The Gravity well had done a job on the shuttle and while not totally tweaking the Space Frame it did get to the stress parameters.
He watched as she materialized and waited to make eye contact with her before speaking.
"Commander Quinn." Ka'Tock said with a grin. "Glad to see you and the ship got through all right."
"It was in good part due to you," she said. "I'm glad we're back." She sobered. "I could use your help when I speak to the admiral. It's about Captain Westphalen."
Ka'Tock took the right hand and put it over his chest as he had seen Human men of Honor do.
"I am at your service Commander." He gesture towards the doors. "The Admiral is waiting our arrival in the ready room."
"Thank you." She preceded him through the doors and into the turbolift where she paused to take several deep breaths. She couldn't fully relax and take in that they were home until she'd reported to the Admiral about Daniel. Then, she would be able to step back and let someone else take command. She was okay being first officer, but she did not want command.
At the door to the ready room she again paused and looked at Ka'Tock. "Here goes nothing." Then she rang the door chime.
Ka'Tock stood behind to the right of the Commander.
"Having an Admiral's ear, interesting definition of nothing." Ka'Tock commented while waiting entrance.
"Come in came the voice of Akeno"
"Ladies always first." Ka'Tock would allow Amber to enter before him. "I have brought her as promised." Ka'Tock said with a slight grin.
Amber nodded and walked in, pausing before the desk.
"Come in. No need to be shy" she said with a smile. "Its good for you to be back home. I've got Commodore Kayano on comms for you too. She's the Task Force commander in this sector" she said. A large screen to the side of the desk flicked on and the green haired woman appeared.
