Lieutenant Xander Oroyo was at his station on the bridge taking readings of the anomaly they had determined was the road home. He was pleased that they had found their way back to Federation space; well more than pleased, he was ecstatic. If Starfleet would approve their time off, he was planning on going back to Ornara and seeing his family once more. It had been some time since he last saw his parents and his brother.
Ensign Dehvon Raynah came over to the main science station with the waveform analysis he had asked for. "Here you go, Lieutenant. I've finished the number crunching of the probe's data-gathering," the attractive young man said.
"Thank you, Ensign. I appreciate your help in this especially since it isn't your job," Xander said. "Has anyone ever told you your eyes are absolutely gorgeous?"
He then suddenly felt that he was way out of line with that comment."Sure, don't feel sorry about your remark!" Raynah said. "It wasn't out of line. In fact, it was rather flattering for you to say. As a matter of fact, that was the nicest thing anyone's ever said to me about my eyes.
"It was the last thing my mother said to me before I left for Starfleet Academy and the last thing my ex-partner told me before he broke up with me. So, no it wasn't out of line at all. I've been wanting to comment about your hair for quite some time. You have the most beautiful hair I've ever seen one another man," Raynah said with a blush. He was quite embarrassed at having this conversation with a superior officer and was thankful he wasn't a telepath or an empath.
"Well, thank you, Ensign. Or should I say Dehvon and please feel free to call me Xander when not on duty," Xander said touching the handsome man's hand.
Both men blushed at the intimate contact between them on the bridge but didn't break the contact. Dehvon leaned in for a closer contact but them stopped himself when he saw a non-com coming closer. He sighed and returned to his station. When Dehvon had retaken his seat, he sent a text message to Oroyo's station saying "Meet me in my quarters after your shift, please. There's something I'd like to show you, Dehvon."
Xander sincerely hoped no one saw that exchange between himself and Ensign Raynah because it wasn't professional and had no place on the bridge of a starship. He wondered what Commander Quinn would say if she would know. Xander was afraid of what anyone would say about his interaction with their young operations officer and on the bridge no less.
He decided not to respond to Raynah's text message with anything more than a smile and a wink when he noticed him looking over his shoulder at Xander. That should give him all the response he needed and wanted. So Xander and Dehvon got back to their duties.
Xander turned back to his console and began running scans on the phenomena off their port bow. He even launched a probe to gather more information on its inner workings. He finally decided that it could indeed be the way home they were looking for. He was pleased with himself.
