Time to slow it down, Trei thought to himself. He looked at Tessa. Time for her to slow down, too. Aloud, he said, "Yeah, I know all about that. A girl stole my heart once. I never really got it back. So who was this guy?"
..:: Continuing ::..
"No stealing of hearts here, We had our hearts exchanged; even managed to graduate and be posted on the same Cadet cruise." Continuing her story. I graduated high in my class and was able to match postings...." Nicoles look into her glass of liquid. "Shared cabin; traded with other lowly cadets and entry level bunk mates so we could be together..." She blinked back a few tears. "Stupidly in love; AH was setting up for a hard fall. It did come though..." She took half her glass in several gulps and found it took a few seconds; or a moment, to breathe again normally. "This stuff is really getting to taste good..."
Trei reached for her glass. "Maybe you need to slow down just a bit..." Wow, she's wasted, he thought.
"You got Yer own." Nicoles smacked his hand lightly. "If yew want more get yer own." She gave him a slight scowl. "Never mess with a lady's beverage."
Trei shook his head as Gired came back. The Romulan filled her drink...again...and this time he got a frown from Trei.
"Don't you think she's had enough?"
The Romulan put his hands up in a surrendering gesture. "Hey, Ah just serve 'em. Ain't nuttin' else my worry." He walked off, filling more drinks.
I'll have to have a word with the captain about him, Trei thought. To Tessa he said, "Who was this guy that hurt you so bad? What did he do?"
"Left me for dead for Pity's sake!" The first show of strong emotion.
Trei winced with the strength of those feelings, amplified by the alcohol. It took him a minute to gather himself from the assault. "So...let me get this straight. You and some guy at the Academy fall in love. Get assigned to the same cadet cruise...and he leaves you for dead? What a piece of veQ," he said, swearing in Klingon.
"Darlin' speak in a language that Ah can understand." Nicoles scolded. and took another drink. "The ship was lost and they thought I was lost with it but never answered any of mah messages and when I see them again what do they say...." She looked to Jansum. "Tells me I should be dead and what am Ah doing here, Ah was here first you know!"
Trei was getting alarmed, not just by her her behavior either. She looked heavy and he had a notion he would have to carry her out of there and pour her into bed. "He's here?? Who is this guy?"
Nicoles' head spun to face Jansum; her body went to turn..."Honeychild, who said it was a him..." her stool continued to rotate with her on it. "Ah think ah am going to ... faint?" She blinked a few times as her head lulled back and the body began to follow.
Trei caught her just as she fell off the stool. He propped her up, just long enough for Gired come over.
"She okay?" he asked conversationally.
Trei scowled at the Romulan. "She will be, no thanks to you. What the hell did you give her? And why didn't you stop??"
Gired shrugged. "She wanted the strongest stuff Ah had, so Ah gave it to her. And Ah'm from Texas. We like our liquor," he drawled with a twinkle in his eye.
Trei's scowl deepened. "You are no longer in Texas, Mr Hick. You are on a Starfleet vessel, and when someone starts getting that smashed, you stop serving them and call security, do you understand me?"
Gired nodded, but he didn't like it. He reached behind the counter. "This is Romulan herbdraught. It's about twice as strong as raktajino. She'll need it." He set the bundle on the bar and left.
Trei sighed, picked up the grounds, then the unconscious doctor, and headed to his quarters. He knew where Tessa's quarters were, but he didn't have her code and didn't want it advertised that he could go into your quarters if need be. In the back of their minds, everyone knew it, but he didn't like to shout about it.
The doors swished open and he headed to his bedroom. He set Tessa on top of the covers, fully clothed, but he took off her boots and socks. His feet got tired after a day at work, so he assumed hers could, too.
"Ah ... ammm... not dead... no more Honeychild for you..." She mumbled as she did not fight him but not of much help.
Making sure she was okay first, Trei got some pajama pants and brought them into the bathroom with him before taking a sonic shower. He thought about the way the woman out there was hurting. Maybe he wasn't a counselor, but she did look like she need a friend. And he would be that friend.
"No- more nice nice..." She mumbled. "you need make nice and new tricorder." She said as she was fading into deep slumber.
Trei finished his nightly ablutions and checked on his new friend before settling down with dinner and some reports. Once he finished with his reports, he settled in for the night on the couch.
