Mission:
Caverns of the mind
Location: Lounge
Timeline: MD 03 1840 Hours
Trei sat at the bar, ready to unwind after a long day at work. First, four hours at the tactical station. Four long hours of sitting on his butt, in a very uncomfortable chair. Whoever had it before his had a weird-shaped butt. Then, he got a tooth knocked out by Troilon in hand to hand practice. He had to admit, she was good. He smiled. If she wasn't his deputy, he's seriously consider asking her out. He was Betazoid; he liked strong women, and the more fiery the better.
The Romulan bartender interrupted his thoughts. He threw a towel over his shoulder and asked, "So what'll be today?" with a grin. "Ya always get something different."
Trei thought for a moment. "I've heard about something called Jack Daniels?" he said, more like a question than a statement.
That got a big smile out of Gired. "Yes, Tennessee whiskey. A personal favorite of me and my family," he said in that odd drawl he had. Trei had never heard a Romulan sound like that.
Gired got out a tumbler and poured two fingers' measure of whiskey into the cup. Trei looked at it, sniffed it, then sipped. It burned, but in a good way; it also wasn't as strong as some other drinks Trei had had.
Trei nodded. "Thanks. I'll have to have this more often."
Gired rolled his eyes. "Ya said that about the last ten drinks ya tried. And every time ya ask for something different." He walked off to help another customer when Trei saw someone at the end of the bar: the new doctor. She seemed down. No, she seemed more than down. She seemed in need of a friend.
The big Betazoid walked over and said, "Is this seat taken? You look like you could use a friend."
Nicoles was at the end of the bar in a Bright yellow sleeveless Sundress with a white poka-dot pattern to it; the white ankle boots matched her gloves. She had the white gloves in her white clutch size purse with a gold chain strap.
Nicoles had broken her favorite Tricorder; the probe survived at least, but still she had a hole in her gut that wanted to be filled. That is what she told herself of course. She had been concentrating on keeping a low profile, she had even gone into a sort of hock to get real stuff from the Bartender rather than Synthale garbage.
Looking up she noted a friendly face; the Security Chief, he had not come in for his physical yet but then a lot had happened of late. SHe could not be much lower; why did fleet have it in for her?
"What a Gentleman." Nicoles gave that southern smile as it was both proper and ingrained into her. "I am not the best company right now but a Lady never turns away a Gentleman's polite company, that would be unthinkable." She grinned.
Trei smiled as he sat down. He wasn't trying to pry, but he was getting a LOT of emotions from her. Mostly that someone, he didn't know who, had broken her heart and she was drowning her sorrows. Also, he was fairly sure that he was not her type. He didn't know why, but he was fine with it.
"You wanna talk about who hurt you?" he asked gently.
"Betazoid Gentleman." Nicoles smiled brightly. "If I said yew might need a long story and I need more confidences." She noted and look at her drink. "And I dew not want to bore Yew with my little it of ill feelings?"
Trei smiled. "I got time. And besides, you look like you need a friend."
Gired came by and refilled their drinks before moving on to the person a few seats away. This was his way: work from one end of the bar to the other.
"How about once upon a time in the Star Fleet academy?" Nicoles took a longer sip of her drink, holding a hand over her chest as the drink smoothly burned it's way down. "My, that is a rather loose defining of Smooth on the way down." Her eyes wide for a second.
Trei took a drink and nodded. "Yeah. So what happened at the Academy and why is it affecting you now?"
The academy was f-i-n-e." Her drawl showing in her speech. "I was minding mah own business until some instructor decided that we could get extra credits by volunteering at events where injuries are the norm." She began. "It was my bad luck to have drawn the short straw; last to pick and AH got stuck with Security Training and Simulations of all things; I mean , can you imagine little Ole me trying to keep some Burly Security man down when he wants to get up?"
Trei chuckled. "You may be a tiny little thing but I bet you're stronger than you look. A lot of doctors have to be. It's why my brother and sister do so much weight training."
"Are they in the Medical field?" Nicoles asked. "I do not like those free thing weights." She said. "The Machines are a bit of fun once y'all get used to it. "I like we have showers so close as I do declare one can get quite a bit of work from them."
Trei nodded. "Yeah, they're both doctors. Ranel works at Starfleet Medical and Lanaila is on DS4. And yeah, it really helps having showers close by. Nothing's worse than running late and not having a shower close."
"I know, a Lady does not rush about without being properly groomed and scented." She took another Drink. "If your siblings are in Medical , then how did yew get into your profession?
Trei shrugged. "They were good with people, while I was good at fighting." He frowned. "That sounds a lot worse when I say it like that." That got a chuckle from her. "I wanted to protect people and since I was good at it, they put me in security."
He frowned. "So what happened with the security training at the Academy?"
"Oh that again..." SHe tried to wave it away. "Well that is when I started having time with the recruits... cadets... whatever they all Security types?" Nicoles said with a shrug. "Ah should have knew better than to spend so much time around them; I just wanted to make sure Ah got full credit you see." Se took another drink. "Well there was this one cadet person that was trying to prove that Bigger is not all better and tended to push the wrong types; you know the big' uns and all?" Chuckling she looked at her drink. "Ah remember the first time I look into those eyes..." SHe kept staring at her drink. "There was a blaze going on in them, that phire that you just know to get out of the way of..." She took a deep breathe. "Well, ah did not think Ah gave my-self away but I had to admit that the heart went a flutter if y'all know what Ah mean?"
Gired came back and filled Trei's drink and paused before filling Tessa's.
"Another please." NIcoles gave him the kindest Southern SMile she could. "I ass-ure you that I will not do anything to disrupt your peace."
The tall Romulan shrugged and filled it up and walked off.
Time to slow it down, Trei thought to himself. He looked at Tessa. Time for her to slow down, too. Aloud, he said, "Yeah, I know all about that. A girl stole my heart once. I never really got it back. So who was this guy?"
