Tessa was feeling the wind-tunnel in her ears in a rhythmic form; with each heartbeat her brain seemed to expand larger than her skull. She realized the wind was her own breathing in her ears and had to work her jaw ot get her ears to pop; painful by the way, and the dim brightness meant she had drank a little too much last night.
The pillow did not have a sham on it, no ruffles to the top blanket as she began to focus upon her covers. She lay in a bed but the pillow case was not the smooth feel of her's. Slowly she lifted the top of the blanket and noted she remained in her dress; that was a relief to a degree. and this was not the color she would like, defiantly not pink. Another note is no smell of lilacs in the air, it was the ozone of recycled air from the ship's normal filtration system. No tic-tock of her cuckoo clock ion the shelf.
She sat ram rod straight in teh bed clutching the blankets to cover her already dressed chest.
"Oh Mah Lord..." Nicoles started to exclaim "This is 'NOT' my Boudoir!" She sounded scared. "Where am Ah?" She did finish in a higher voice.
Trei came around the corner, already dressed in his uniform and carrying two mugs. "Hey, Doc. You got a little tipsy last night so I let you crash at my place. I slept on the couch, just so you know nothing happened."
He walked over and sat on the edge of his bed and handed her the mug with the bluish green herbdraught in it. "Gired said that would help. It's supposed to be twice as strong as raktajino, he said."
Nicoles looked at Jansum with wider eyes; here was a man on the edge of a bed she was in...
"A- a - Lady does not make a habit of sleeping outside her own Bed Kind Sir." She said hesitantly. "However since Yew are a Gentleman and saw to mah safety and..." She look at him being dressed and she being as well. "Virtue as a Gentleman should." SHe complemented. "Ah do thank Yew for that." She said slowly and accepted the mug. "Ah do suppose Ah over did it a little as there were ..." She had to think for a second on how to properly state this. "some things ah had trouble dealing with?"
Trei nodded, drinking his own coffee. Klingon, not Romulan. "You never told me who the woman was. Who left you for dead."
Her expression fell into the mug as she stare down into it, face reddening. The fact she had spoken so out of turn; to a stranger and one she knew from the Medical Files of the senior staff and her attending the Staff meeting.
"Ah... Ah mean ah shouldn't; a Lady does not harm and all, and AH think it might get her in trouble if Ah say?" Nicoles said timidly.
Trei shook his head. "Why? It's not like I'm going to be working with her all the time is it?" He put his finger under her chin until she looked up. "Besides, you looked like you needed a friend."
Her face went even more crimson as he spoke, her mouth opening to speak and closing a couple of times like a fish almost.
"Y-yew were kind Gentleman in that regard." She replied slowly. "Like Ah said, a lady does not do harm." she reiterated.
Trei started getting really intense emotions from the doctor. It was starting to hurt him, so it had to be hurting her. "Look, I'm Betazoid and I'm getting a lot of pain from you. So for both our sanities, could you just tell me who it is? So we can both feel better?"
"Kuroko..." She said slowly as she blinked back tears. "Yer new Deputy Security Chief." She tried to cover for her, make it seem less Kuroko's fault and not get her in trouble. "After our ship blew up... Ah was thought KIA then when ah called during rehab..." She struggled to kept those darn tears back; a Lady does not cry in front of a Gentleman. 'She never responded, left me there all alone... not even flowers on Mah grave." She could not lie to a Betazoid, not that it really crossed her mind after how chivalrous he was being.
Trei pulled her close and let her cry on his shoulder. He had a sister and had given it to Lanaila often enough. "Don't worry about it. I can schedule us to work different shifts while I get over it." He was still wincing from sharing her heartache. "At least she knows you're alive. Now you can make her life miserable every time she has a sprained hamstring," prompting a choked up attempt at half-hearted chuckled between tears from the doctor. "I'm kidding." He only had one arm around her and he kept it that way, but his hand rubbed her arm, trying to soothe her like he did for his sister.
It was another matter as he was not actually paying her attention but allowing her a shoulder in which she could better compose her feelings and not have to show him teh tears; better than any kerchief offered from those immature womanizing boys back home. She had to be thankful a Gentleman Betazoid was here for her; he would pick up her pain and hopefully be appropriate in his responses. She had a good moment; maybe a smidgen longer, of tears and quickly wipe them away; took a breathe before leaning from his shoulder to face him, even putting on that Southern smile that is genuine in most ways despite anything bad had ever happen.
"You should drink that herbdraught, it'll help with the hangover."
She smiled softly and took some careful sips and with the slightly bitter taste that had sugar and sweetened to compensate; a kindness of Jansum.
"Thank you Jansum, yew are truly a Gentleman." Nicoles gave him a genuine smile. "That is a complement where ah come from and not given lightly." She took another drink. "ah thank you for being my protector and keeper, you were wright, ah did need ; and still do mind you, need a friend; a chivalrous one was just a boon."
He shrugged. "Whoever needs a friend, I'm there. As for being called a gentleman, my family is from one of the Thirteen Houses on Betazed. The Fourth, actually. My parents made sure I knew my manners. And because I was born a boy on a matriarchal world, they made sure I had the skills to be a good homemaker. So, my new friend, are you up for uttaberry muffins and a sort of sausage from Betazed?"
"Not all royals are Gentlemen." Nicoles retorted. "Accept the Little ole complement and just say thank-yew. She chuckled. "Darling friends do not always have to explain themselves." She nod. "And I would love some breakfast; better than aspirin for hangovers I am told; I have not experienced this often enough to be an expert." She put a hand to her head. "And thank Yew for not raising your voice." She chuckled a little.
Trei nodded. "Thank you for the compliment. Come on, it's in the dining area. As for not having had many hang overs, eat some food, drink your herbdraught and have a good deal of water. The water will help with the headache." He led her out to the dining area where they sat and ate breakfast.
When they were done, Trei wiped his mouth and asked, "You need anything else?"
"Walk me to the door?" She said after getting her shoes and handbag.
Jansum walked her to the door and Nicoles went out after it opened; turned on her heels and up on her toes to kiss him on the cheek before heading down the corridor with a Lady like sashay in her steps.
Trei watched her go, smiling. He had friends onboard, but any day you made a friend was a good day.
