Mission: Caverns of the mind
[CONTINUED]
[OLD]
"Mister Deville." Ka'Tock noted the entrance. "It is so good to have our chief Helmsman attend the meeting... at last." He took a breath. "Get with Mercy for your background." Ka'Tock said calmly. "For the duration of this operation I will be assigning you the sole duty of keeping the shuttle ready for launch while you mind the Hangar Deck." He nod. "Assign someone to the Gamma Shift Bridge duty. And please choose someone who is mindful of shift timetables.

"Whoa... whoa." Deville replied with smirk. "Settle down there Ridges. No need for the intimidating stare." He narrowed his eyes and leaned forward slightly toward the Captain before letting out a slight chuckle. "If babysitting the shuttle is all you got, then I am in for a smooth ride, because I can do that in my sleep." He stood up and looked around before walking over to the replicator. "I just need to know two things. Where's the Java and is Mercy cute?"
Amber sighed. "If you do your best work while sleeping, then gamma shift may be a good fit." She looked him over. "Now that we all know you have a problem with time, can we continue the briefing?"
She turned her attention back to Ka'Tock. "I assume I'll be on the ship...babysitting the new crew?"
"Speaking of cute." Paris replied with a smile, looking over to Amber. "And How are you doing..." He looked to her collar and picked up on the rank right away. "Lieutenant Commander?" He turned to the replicator and tapped on the display to order a coffee before looking back to Amber. "I'm an El-Aurian and we have nothing... but... time." He reached down and picked up his mug, once it was done forming, and held it up. "And you can babysit me anything, Ma'am." Paris quickly took a sip, only to pull away and spit the liquid back into the mug. "Damn that's hot."
Amber chuckled. "I'm sure you'll find a number of things too hot for you around here, lieutenant." She shook her head. "And I thought an El-Aurian would have learned some better pickup lines over the years."
Deville raised a brow as he sat back down in his seat. He took a sip of his mug, not breaking eye contact, until finally speaking in a calm and amused tone. "Awfully presumptuous of you to jump to the conclusion that I was trying to pick you up when all I was doing was paying a compliment. Speaks a lot to your ego, Lieutenant Commander." He smirked on more time before taking another sip and looking away.
"Allow me to interject the fact we are in a staff meeting." Ka'Tock said with a still professional tone. "Lt. Deville take a seat and Commander Quinn you and Lt. Deville will remain for a moment." Ka'Tock tried not to glare in any direction. "The rest of you are dismissed to continue preparations." He turned to his Yeoman. "You may go about your regular duties as well.
Amber didn't want to stay behind and talk to the captain. Nor did she want to give Deville any more fodder. His ego was big enough for all of them.
Pippa was more than happy to leave. She glanced at Amber and hurried out of the room.
Azusa sat there running a finger around the rim of her coffee cup. "Am I cute too?" she thought to herself. Then she blushed, there were Betazoids at the table. She hoped they hadn't picked up on that. Finally she spoke up. "What would you like Engineering to be doing?" She asked quietly. She wasn't a loud outgoing person, so she camouflaged well amongst crowds and at briefings.
Trei heard the thought, but didn't react at all. He did think she was cute, but he wasn't going to say anything and embarrass her. Most of the time, it's best not to comment.
Amber had picked up on it, but she wouldn't let the lieutenant know, to save her further embarrassment. She hoped the engineer wasn't interested in the pilot.
"Lt. Akano." Ka'Tock look to her. "Make sure we have a team of Engineers ready should there be unseen damage to the outpost and give an emphasis to the requirement of the sensory array as they are the eyes of the ship and our first need once we set into orbit." He nod. "Otherwise just keep doing what you are doing as it is quite exemplary." Ka'Tock thought for a second. "STrike that, I want you on the Away Team, an Engineer will help evaluate the station's condition and power sources. You are going down with Lt Oroyo's team."
"So, we're going ahead with the away team without a scan of the planet?" Xander asked just curious. He thought it was presumptuous of their new 'captain' to make up an away team when he should let the team leader do that but then again it was his ship after all.
Azusa nodded. "Yes Captain" she replied with a small smile. She took another look at the new pilot. "Doesn't look my type... why am I even thinking this? Am I really 'THAT' lonely? Stop it Azusa! Stop it!" she thought to herself trying to hide her face slightly.
Amber looked down, covering her face with the palm of her hand so Azusa wouldn't see her roll her eyes. The girl needed to go on a date. Badly. She wondered who was the engineer's type.
She's my type Trei said to Amber. But I am not stupid enough to say so at the moment. "If you'll excuse me, there is no master-at-arms on this ship and my people have certifications coming up." He walked out the door, trying to hide the smile on his face. Azusa could be very funny.
"I can arrange a meeting," Amber sent on a tight mental message just to Trei. "When this mission is over."
Trei almost laughed when he stepped out the door. When the doors finally closed and Azusa couldn't hear him, he did laugh. Quinn was right: That girl needed a date BADLY. He was still chuckling when he arrived at the weapons locker.
Lt. Oroyo, we will eventually be going to the surface unless the station is hazardous or burned to the ground. We are assigned to evaluate the situation and I am making sure you have the support personnel you need for that eventuality. "Ka'Tock began. "For after the scans and things are cleared we will need your team to see what happened on the surface, I just believe that being prepared is best so the assigned people can plan on their requirements before doing a last moment scramble to get what is needed." Ka'Tock tilt his head. "Preparation is a good thing to do before a survey don't you think?"
"Agreed, sir," Xander said.
