Location: Captain's Ready Room
Timeline: After the anomaly
Daniel waited for Trei to arrive, checking his chronometer on his terminal while he did. He hadn't indicated to the security chief that he should hurry to the meeting, so the chronometer checking was more a sense of impatience than any sort of tardiness on Trei's account. But Daniel was antsy, and hoped to hurry along with the hundred other things he had waiting. This was the only one he thought of as a formality, but it still needed done. For multiple reasons.
Trei rang the chime, and waited to enter.
"Come in," Daniel said, leaning back in his chair and fixing his uniform.
The tall Betazoid entered, and saw the Captain sitting at his desk. He felt a little tension release from the man. He hoped the captain wasn't always impatient. Or had he been late? "I'm sorry if I kept you waiting sir." He stood in front of the man's desk, his hands behind his back.
"Not at all," the captain waved a hand, using the gesture to settle it upon a PADD on his desk. He picked it up and slid it in front of the chair across his desk. "Please, sit."
Trei sat across from his captain, confident in the knowledge that he had done the best job he could. If the captain had a problem with his performance, he had to find out what and fix it.
"This is simply a formality, but I thought it prudent to have a quick conversation about it. I'm entering you formally in the ship's log as the Aurora's second officer, effective immediately. You've served the ship in a fine capacity as the chief of security, so much so that I thought it appropriate to put you in place as the senior bridge officer."
Trei's surprise showed just for a minute, then a smile broke out across his face, and the tall Betazoid said, "Thank you, sir. I won't let you down."
Daniel smiled. "I expect not, Mr. Jansum. Will there be anything else?"
Jansum managed to recover his composure and straightened. "No, sir."
"Dismissed."
