Amber stopped by science to pick up the bag she used for away missions and paused when she saw the new science officer. "Hello." She looked around the department with a smile. "How are you settling in?" She had a couple of minutes to chat before they had to head to the shuttle bay.
Nastari glanced around the department and then at the taller woman. "Quite well, thank you. The ships refit and the department's equipment is quite up to date." Djeneba flashed a small smile at the first officer "the last ship where I served was quite out to date."
"Yes, we just had an upgrade. It's very nice." Amber smiled back. "I'm very pleased with the department right now. I was the former Chief Science Officer so I was able to set everything up. So, if there's a problem, blame me."
"Oh" Djeneba sounded a bit surprised at the Commanders acknowledgement of being the former chief science officer but she was pleased to hear that her first officer was science orientated, it meant that the opportunity to learn a few things from her superior would or could present itself. It would also mean she would have to step up and stay observant. Djeneba relaxed a bit and then said "So far there have been no problems within the department and the departments crew works quite well together, all we lack is a Chief, but your advice would always be welcome."
"Until one comes along, I'll be doing double duty," Amber said. "But as you said, we have a good team and they work together well, so it isn't much of a chore."
Djeneba nodded "Double duty can get tedious after a while. Hopefully there will not be further bumps in the road and fitting in here, in science will help ease that chore. Anything in particular we will need for our excursion planet side?"
"I don't know," Amber admitted. "I'm not sure what we'll find when we get there. Right now, the plan is to visit the scientists who are observing the inhabitants and find out if there's been any odd behavior lately."
"Our visit planet side relates to the entity type object we saw on the view screen?" Djeneba questioned as she opened a drawer and studied its contents. "What is its relationship to the inhabitants, do we know?" The newcomer guessed that they had studied this being prior to this and if anyone would know about it, the first officer would.
"We aren't sure if it does," Amber admitted. "We want to see if the scientists have any information that can help us figure out what's going on. Based on our last encounter with the entity, I don't think it's harmful, but we need to be sure."
Djeneba nodded more to herself then the other scientist as mental flipped through the data in her head about what she knew about strange alien entities. "Right and speaking of which, we shouldn't dally long. The federation officers have been studying the natives planetside how long?"
"Less than two years, I believe," Amber said. She went into the Chief Science Officer's office and retrieved her bag, returning a moment later. "The entity is not native to this system."
Djeneba puckered her forehead for a second and then relaxed it. "Sounds like a a old fashioned mystery. Unknown items of curiosity is one of the reasons science because my chosen field of study." Djeneba moved over to another drawer and opened it and pulled out a few sampling bags to replenish her pack. "The planet side team are they the ones who requested assistance or did we simply find this entity via our scanners?"
"We were sent here because of the entity," Amber said. "We had a previous encounter with it, so when there was a new siting, we were the ones sent to investigate."
"How did the previous encounter go, learn anything of use to help us in this situation?" Djeneba said her tone questioned, she was really curious but also didn't want to run forward and do something that would cause injury herself or another member of the crew.
"We found a way to communicate with the problem was resolved," Amber said. "I hope it will be that easy this time."
Djeneba hoped so too "Indeed, that would be nice."
"Okay, I've got what I need," Amber said. "I'll meet you at the shuttle."
"Yes, Commander, I will not be late." Djeneba replied and pulled out a few slides for other samples. She felt that she would not need them this trip but wanted to be prepared. When she had finished she headed back to the shuttle at a quick pace.
