Mission:
Rebuilding
Location: USS Savannah
Timeline: Departure to the USS Aurora
Djeneba stood in her current quarters and looked around at the myriad of the few items she had to pack and were packed. She knew her new quarters would not be as spacious as they were here on the Savannah. The science officer’s short legs carried her across the room as she picked up the futball that had been given to her by her brother the last time they had met, briefly on a respite of a holiday on the closest Starbase when the Savannah had pulled in for a minor repair. Miguel had always been so thoughtful and cared for his youngest sister, almost as much as he cared for his own children. It had been wonderful to spend a few days with him, his wife Kerrenna and their three children. Joao Davi had grown to almost her height and he was but seven or eight years in age. His younger brother Felipe followed him around like he was his idol which only proceeded to irritate the young boy. Djeneba and Miguel had chuckled over the memory of a similar experience when she would follow him around between her treatments and tried to steal the ball away as he ran around her in circles as he practiced his foot work.
Djeneba had spent time with her sister-in-law caring for their newest arrival and the two year old that still required much attention of her mother. Kerrenna asked “How do you like your time aboard the Savannah? Is it what you thought it would be?”
Djeneba looked up from her squatted position on the floor next to her niece, Isabeau, though everyone called her Izzy where she finished closing the button on one of the dolls dress she held in her hands. She then placed the doll on the chair next to the small table and lifted a pretend cup of steaming tea to the dolls face and had her take a sip. As she set the pretend tea cup down she addressed the question. “It is a big ship and I am but one of many science officers there. We each have duties that we carry out. I’ve recently been assigned to the evening shift. Miguel can tell you, each one of us makes a difference but where we make the most impact is as a team.” Djeneba smiled then and glanced up with her big brown eyes “It is what I like most about serving on the ship. We work as a team.”
The small old fashioned chrono chimed in the crate and brought Djeneba back to her current situation. She placed the ball in among her times and sealed it with the lid. It would be transported to her new quarters where she would unload it. She turned and lifted the strap to her small hand held bag and placed it over her shoulder and hurried out the door to the transporter where she would be sent to her new assignment aboard the Aurora.
