Mission:
Taking Wing
Location: Captain's Ready Room
Timeline: In flight to Naldaya
Daniel had summoned the ship's... strangest new crew member to deck one, ready room. It was a formality - the captain simply liked looking his new officers in the eye. But he admitted curiosity on this one, for more reason than one.
He busied himself on ship's status reports while he waited for the counselor to arrive.
Ka'Tock arrived at the appointment; the fact he had been waiting for over an hour while thinking of the possibilities, he stood tall as he entered the room and stopped short of the Captain and with a diplomatic grin.
"Captain Westphalen, I am Lt Ka'Tock, your new Counselor." He offered rather than annoucing. "It is a pleasure to be here.'
"Come, sit," Daniel gestured at the chair in front of his desk. He waited for the counselor to get settled before continuing. "I admit, I had a bit of curiosity where you were concerned."
"That is to be expected." Ka'Tock replied calmly. "Counselors ; despite the time and usefulness we have established, still are held a bit at arm's length at first." He gave a sly grin. "I understand the natural process of earning the trust taking time and am more than willing to invest the time to earn it of course."
"You misunderstand, I think," the captain said, leaning back in his seat. "I don't mean to cast aspersions on your profession - counselors are valuable part of deep space missions and diplomatic expeditions. On a survey ship, I worry that you'll have precious little to do outside yearly fitness evaluations."
"If things get oring; despite the reputation of counselors I was a helmsman in the Empire, I had considered doing it again but that would have been delving into a past life." He smiled. "Besides, I find that once it is learned one has a friendly ear and a disytinct aversion to gossiping a counselor is never without someone who could use a friendly ear and also I do have command observation for crew fitness reports so I will be floating about." He chuckled. "There is no worry for me becoming idle sir I find ways to serve."
"There is one aspect of our current mission that you may be able to assist with," Daniel volunteered. "We're seeking out a spaceborne lifeform with which we've spoken before. It is our hope to make contact and communicate with it. And frankly, a counselor can't hurt in that regard."
"I would like to think I can be a good conversationalist upon occasion." Ka'Tock answered in a calming tone. "Despite appearances I am a pacifist, I have proven my Honor and this life I vowed to help rather than harm. Conversation is a good tool to that end."
"We might as well use your skills in diplomacy then, hmm?" Daniel said with a smile. "When we arrive at the Naldaya system, I would appreciate you coming to the bridge. I'd like another perspective who has had first contact training."
"I am yours to Command." Ka'Tock said simply. "I will do what I can on the bridge, it has been a while since I have had to be there, might be a nice change of pace."
"There's only two chairs up there," he said with a smile. "But Commander Quinn and I are hands-on. You're welcome to borrow one."
"That will not be needed sir." Ka'Tock said. "I would not want to become too comfortable in them." He gave a slight grin. "Those are Command CHairs, I am a humble Counselor and I think better on my feet as Humans say." He said as he started to rise. "It will be an intesting encounter; I might even get a paper published in the Xeno -Cultural Journals if we succeed?"
