Mission:
Caverns of the mind
Location: Security Offices
Timeline: Immediately After Security Check Ins Part II
Trei got ready for the other officer to come in. It was an older ensign, a Klingon woman, and she was a beauty--at least, as far as Klingons went. Defined ridges on her crest and nose, soft hair, and statuesque body.
But Trei didn't care about that. What he saw were the muscles in her arms and legs, her capable hands, the hardness in her eyes, and the determined set of her mouth. He saw a warrior. He saw someone who could efficiently protect the ship and its crew.
"Ensign K'Tar, reporting for duty, sir," she said.
Trei accepted the proffered padd and read it. She had joined as a noncom but was so good at her job and had such integrity that she went through the OTC...and made Ensign. Trei raised his eyebrows at that.
"You seem to have a stellar record," he said, handing it back to her. "Your quarters are already assigned, just check with the quartermaster for that and your equipment. See Doctor Nicoles for your standard med check. There is no counselor onboard at the moment, but you could check with Gired, the bartender. There is exactly one holodeck onboard, and you will need to schedule well in advance. Your phaser recertification is with LtJG Troilon in the phaser range over that way"--he pointed--"and starting tomorrow we all have hand to hand training every other day. Any questions?"
"Gired." K'Tar's lip curled. "Is that a Romulan name by chance?"
Trei scowled at her. "He was adopted by one of the Starfleet Marine Corps's most decorated generals. He is a good man. Understood?"
K'Tar tried to bring her lip down, but was not entirely successful. She had spent her childhood on the Klingon-Romulan Neutral Zone. She was not eager to see one face to face. To her, they had been the monster that lurked under her bed at night. "Aye, sir."
"Good. Then get your butt to the phaser range and see Troilon. Dismissed."
K'Tar passed a human man on the the way to the phaser range. He stopped her and said, "Don't try to show off," before leaving.
She frowned and continued until she was in a cavernous room and facing an Orion woman on the platform.
"Hello, I am Tiskatee Troilon." She smiled. "I will be putting you through the certification today."
The tall Klingon nodded in greeting. "I am ready." She stepped up to the counter and observed the phasers. She had been one of the best at her old assignment, and she was eager to prove herself. Still, when she tried to show off, she usually fell on her face.
"Let's have some fun. You be Blue, somehow I do not want to say you're yellow to a Klingon" Troilon said. "Computer start program"
The system gave a three second pause to begin the sequence. Two blue and two started out into view...
Troilon took her two with smooth practice; she was in her element; she thought of this as a test of her own ability. SHe had her phaser at the ready for each sequence.
K'Tar took hers down in no time; she was done before the Orion and was ready to go for more.
Finally a woman that could shoot with the best of them.
"One more for the road?" She asked K'Tar.
K'Tar gave her a wolfish grin before setting her eyes on the range. She loved her job.
"Computer start program." Triolon commanded.
The two women started again, K'Tar determined to get all the targets. She did, and finished before Troilon.
