Trei had smiled when he heard the news. He had heard that Ka'Tock had been made captain and wanted to congratulate him. He was sad that he had never gotten to know his fellow deptartment heads, but it had been chaos in Security. He came home every night after 16 hour days to eat and fall into bed. He was hoping to get a capable Assistant Chief soon so he would have free time to relax. He sighed with longing at the thought of reading a book or simply having a drink with a friend.
He rang the bell to the Captain's Ready Room, determined to make the biggest effort of using the word captain he could.
"Come in, door is open." Ka'Tock was sitting behind his desk.
The fact he always seemed to be here while the ship was refit and being readied to depart. His list of to do seemed to be the largest task he had on the ship at present; the taking of the Command Reins was a quick deal by sub-space and a mound of PADDs requiring him to read and sign off, being careful not to slit his own throat in the process.
"It was easier in the Empire, very little paperwork." He commented softly to himself.
Trei smiled a little at the Klingon's frustration, but didn't comment on it. "Well, Captain, here's the list of needed supplies from the Security and Tactical department. Oh, and congratulations on the promotion, Captain. I'm sure you'll have the Captain's Ready Room to your liking in no time." He said all of this with a small, innocent smile on his face.
"It is coming along." Ka'Tock looked up. "Have a seat." He offered the seat across from him and extended his hand. "I'll take a look at it while we talk."
Trei shook the proffered hand and sat across from the captain. Hopefully he would have some new crew. The security and tactical departments were woefully understaffed.
"It seems that you are not favoring your requests by the look on your face." Ka'Tock was not emphatic but as a Counselor he had learned to read body language. "Anything you wish to ask while you are here?" He was half skimming the document and watching his chief of security.
"Just a little tired, Captain. I need a lot more personnel so everyone can stop taking double shifts, Captain. So, Captain, how is your son?"
Ka'Tock expression lightened. "He is doing very well." He smiled. "Though with this being Captain's Son is far worst than any Teacher's pet as you can empathize with him?"
Jansum shook his head ruefully. "No, sorry, Captain. I was most definitely not the teacher's pet, Captain."
"Suffice to say the amount of harassment he is getting now is taking a toll." He chuckled. Lest they forget he is in a Program of Klingon Warrior Training so the ... razzing is -brief."
Trei had to smile at that. "Yeah, I imagine it will be Captain."
"Are you curious about what I expect of a Security Chief?" Ka'Tock asked. "I mean you are quite possibly wondering if I will add or subtract from your basic duties and such, Captain's whims and all?"
Trei chuckled once. "No, I'm just teasing you, using the word captain as much as possible. I'm sure you'll let me know if you need something specific. Can't a guy congratulate a coworker?"
"Thank you." Ka'Tock replied. "Though I wonder if condolences might be a better choice?" He chuckled. "The ship will be new with each day, challenges and achievements yet to be seen." He looked to Jansum. "I am trusting the Safety of this ship in your hands." He grinned. "I am sure you will make the crew feel... Secure?"
Trei nodded, smiling. "Absolutely, Captain." He pointed to the padd. "I could definitely use more personnel. Everyone's tired of pulling double shifts."
"I will have a request expressed, just tell my Yeoman the needs and she will make sure I follow through." Ka'Tock nod. "I would like to make a request of you if I might?" He began. "I could use some work getting out my rusty Hand to Hand and since I know your people are skilled it would be good for me to have the challenge of training with them I think?"
Trei nodded. "Sure. I am currently learning how to use a Claymore, so maybe you could help me with that?"
"You are a brave man to ask me to cross blades with you; even in training." Ka'Tock chuckled. "You are aware we duelists take our blades seriously; while I would be honored I will not be one to 'go easy' as we train." He grinned. "It is part of the code and more incentive to grow faster in the blade."
"As long as you don't try to kill me," the Betazoid chuckled.
"Then what is the use if I do not try..." Ka'Tock tried to hide the smirk of humor in his reply.
