Mission: Caverns of the mind
Location: Sick Bay

ON

Sick Bay is in the quiet time of the day; the night shift had the lights lower in the isolation Bed, the display quietly showing her steady Heartbeat and respiration as she lay nestled with the sheet pulled up high just under her shoulders and hands crossed, hair gently about her pillow as she sleep.

The green hue of the sterilization field the only hint she had anything wrong with this picture.

Kuroko walked into sickbay, on discovering it was darkened. She treaded lightly as she located Tessa. "Best not disturb her while she's sleeping..." she thought to herself, a small smile stretching across her face. At least she was now safe.

"Same old Coward..." Her eyes half opened as she is still partly sedated. "Always leaving me when I am sleeping..." Nicoles said in a drowsy tone.

Kuroko froze. "Oh no, thats not fair!" she said.

"Come in and see me asleep and yew turn to walk away." Nicoles said quietly as she fought the sedative effect. "What does that sound like."

Kuroko turned around to look at Tessa. "I didn't want to wake you" she said softly. "How are you feeling now?"

"Doctor in a Biobed is the worst place to be."Nicoles groaned. "Yew did not call Mah parents for condolences or it would have told I am alive." She said slowly. "Why not?"

"Because I couldn't face them..." Kuroko said simply. "I am a security officer. I couldn't lose someone I love under my own watch. I couldn't be the one to tell them. I wasn't... brave enough to admit it..."

"Are yew this cowardly in General or just with me" SHe closed er eyes and hook a breathe. "Ah suppose I should expect that sort of thing, Yew leaving and all means no further connections Ah suppose?"

Kuroko turned on a heel to face Tessa. Slowly she approached closer to the biobed. She took her hand gently. "I'm a coward to my own heart. You could say its my biggest weakness" she said to her softly. "Who said I was going anywhere now that we're finally here together?"

"If I had not spoken would yew be still standing here?" Tessa asked.

"Tomorrow I would have been. And the day after and after that and after that until you were back on your feet" Kuroko said simply "Just, I know you're strong enough that you don't need to always use me as a crutch"

"Or a shoulder to rest upon while recovering anytime of late."

Kuroko raised an eyebrow at that statement. "So. Do you want me to leave you alone? Or do you want me to 'bother' you a bit more?" she asked in a rather more suggestive way.

"Dead people do not get a say in such matters Honey Child." Nicoles dolled out.

Kuroko placed a single finger on Tessa's lips whilst an evil smile crept across her face. "Well 'dead people' don't talk either"

Tessa lightly bit Kuroko's finger.

"Show more manners for the dead." She scolded.

"Well apparently the dead bite..." Kuroko said as she withdrew her finger waving it in the air slightly. "However, if I'm reading this right... You only lightly bit me. That could have been for a more playful reason, and I have the keys to sickbay right now..." she told her softly as she drew a little closer.

"Face it Tessa. For once allow your heart to lead the way and not your anger and stubborness which I love so much..." Kuroko explained she dropped her voice to a whisper "Oh and not one word about the oochy koochy stuff to anyone either..."

"No one would believe me." Nicoles said softly. "Besides; why would Ah be talking about yew anyway?"

Kuroko smirked. "I'm sure you talk about me more than yew know my dearie" she said mimicking her accent slightly.

"Thinking a bit highly of Yerself?" Tessa was looking at Kuroko. "Yew are a Ta-Boo thing of late."

"You know what they say about things that are Ta-Boo" Kuroko winked. "Its usually only Ta-Boo to the people who want it the most"

"Say the one who runs from the tough stuff of her heart, when happy cannot git rid of yew, moment it is painful... Miss bye-bye Kuroko." Her eyes looked imploring. "Did Yew really love me like Yew said?" She said. "Or all bluster and pomp?"

"I could never lie to you" Kuroko told her softly. "I just wish you would take sincereity in my words" she added. She gently stroked a hair out of Tessa's eyes. "I should let you rest, you've had a long day"

"Prove them." Nicoles challenged. "Staying awake just to watch me sleep..." She gave the hint of a shy grin. "Ah'll see when I wake if it is true?"

Kuroko froze for a few moments as she thought through what she had just said. "I'll be back when you wake up... with some breakfast. Just like the old days" Kuroko smiled. "Right now, I think you need to get better. Then you can be back to the Tessa that we both know" Kuroko told her. She dropped her voice to a quiet whisper. "For every step you take, I'm always taking the same step with you..."

"Will Yew stay til I am asleep?" Tessa asked softly. "I do not want to be... alone in the dark."

Smiling Kuroko took her hand in hers. "Of course" she said.

Giving Kuroko a genuine Southern grin with a little sparkle in her eye. "Always had warm hands." She complemented with a contented breath and closed her eyes with a remaining grin as her breathing slowed almost instantly.
