Ka'Tock was on the Bridge; the Away Team had landed safely and had a tour of the facility. All seemed undamaged so they decided to follow the team's information trail and check on the native inhabitants and surrounding area for signs of the team.
Here Ka'Tock had taken to his command chair; he had lost communications with the Team going into the cavers, comm was hard enough without complecating it from the stone bouncing signals and all.
SItting back he gave the impression of a man waiting results; deeply contenplating the possibilities while formulating counter-measures and plans should they come into need. He had the other shuttle at the ready and a team of Security on stand by; this would be a rescue and thus not so many Science types.
He hoped he need not use that option but there is what he has. The Man De.Ville was in the shuttle and the relay of events. Ka'Tock just sat stoic appearing in his Command Chair; not like him at all.
Boudreau stepped on to the Bridge, admiring the efficient, compact layout it had. He spied the Science station across the Bridge from himself, the other side of the Klingon in the Captain's chair. He smiled pleasantly to himself, it was still a wonder to behold the Federation's old foe in the same uniform. The man seemed preoccupied. No doubt awaiting an update from the mission.
Should I approach him?. He hesitated a moment, then decided that now was the best time. Klingons don't appreciate fear after all ...
He advanced on the Captain's chair. 'Commander Ka'Tok ... Lieutenant Boudreau, Chief Science Officer, reporting for duty.'
Ka'Tock looked over and saw the new officer; he had seen the report of Transfer and was more accustomed to meeting the personnel; another Command thing he needed to pay more attention to in the future.
"Lieutenat Boudreau..." Ka'Tock broke his thoughts and focus on the conversation, standing up to be more formal and extending a hand with a slight grin."I apologize for not seeing to your arrival ." He shrugged. " My team is on the surface and I allowed myself to get a bit involved." You come highly recommended , it is good to have you aboard."
He took the hand and shook it firmly. 'Mighty kind of you to say so, sir,' drawled Boudreau. 'And please, don't apologise. You were rightly concentrating on your crew. Besides, it allowed me to get the jump on inspecting the department.'
Boudreau pointed to the viewer, 'any idea with what they're dealing with down there?'
"Knowing that I would not have a Science team living with the subject of their research." Ka'Tock replied. "When the team gets back my Executive Officer is of Science background; you can get with her and see what you can do to help her if you do not mind?"
'It would be my pleasure, sir,' replied Boudreau with enthusiasm, though puzzled by the Klingon's cryptic remark. He hadn't met many Klingons, but his Commanding Officer didn't seem to fit the mould. He leant in, and ensured only he and the captain could hear, 'if you don't mind me saying, sir, you don't strike me as the typical Klingon.'
"In my life I have made a few changes." Ka'Tock replied. "I was the ship's Counselor at one time, so I understand your... surprise."
Boudreau grinned in surprise, 'A Counsellor? That's markedly different to most Klingons I'd guess - still, we fit in where we contribute best, don't you think?'
"Sometimes we end up with more than expected." Ka'Tock remarked. "I spent my First life as a Rabble -Rouser and womanizer, that got me killed. My second chance at life I decided to help rather than harm and here is where I ended up." He chuckled. "I am not a typical Klingon to be sure."
The Cajun raised his eyebrows at the Captain's remarks. Killed the first time, huh?. Boudreau knew the miracles science could perform in the late twenty-fourth century, but it was still rare to find someone who had been dead enough to remark that this was their second life. 'Not typical at all, sir.' He motioned around the Bridge, 'so what can I expect aboard the Aurora?
"typical Star Ship; we head into the unknown as as a Crew we find a way to get through it." Ka'Tock answered. "We have a close knit crew once you get a little more time here you will get to know them and find your fit and be a part of the action." He chuckled. "I find this ship has a way of keeping things ... interesting. We have a good crew and better with you coming aboard to help enhance the ship."
'Adventure, huh,' Boudreau flashed a satisfied smile, 'well that's what I signed up for - that and nebula surveys!' He straightened and adjusted his footing, 'I'm glad you think I can add value to your crew, sir. I hope I don't prove you wrong.' He adjusted his tack of questioning, 'so ... the XO used to be a scientist? Can I expect any interference with how I run the department?'
"More of having a consultant in an 'On case' basis; she has not shown anything other than support the entire time I have known her." Ka'Tock answered. "She is most supportive but not in an obtrusive manner; running any information for command would be best if you go through her as I was a Counselor and Science I barely mottled through while training." He chuckled. "You will be able to run 'Your' department as you wish. She is an added resource should you require."
Boudreau nodded his understanding, 'that's good to hear. I just wanted the lay of the land. It's been my experience that some Commanding Officers can't quite let go of the Department they used to run and meddle.'
"I would welcome a counselor." Ka'Tock chuckled. "I miss only having to worry about patients."
The Cajun smiled, full of mirth, 'I'm not sure if you noticed, Captain,' Boudreau emphasised the word, 'but I'm pretty sure you have a ship-full of them now.' He smiled kindly, 'reading the old reports it seems as though a ship's CO was the ship's counselor as appropriate.'
"It would be nice to share the load." Ka'Tock joked. "Any interest as a secondary position as Moral Officer?"
'Morale officer? Me?' Boudreau smiled easily, 'they do say we Louisiana folk know how to have a good time. If you're serious about that, I'll be glad to help.'
"Your hired." Ka'Tock smiled.
He laughed, 'alright then, once I get settled I'll look to setting up some morale-boosting activities.'
"I am sure the crew will not allow you to be bored." Ka'Tock Rose and offered a handshake. "It has been a pleasure and I say it again, Welcome aboard.'
'Thank you, Captain.' Boudreau took the Klingon's hand and shook it firmly, 'I hope we'll continue to find it a pleasure. Now, I'll just go see about squaring my kit away, if you'll allow me?'
"Please do. Ka'Tock agreed.
