Mission: Caverns of the mind
Location: Sickbay

Jax led Gunnar into the Sickbay. He stopped the dog a respectful distance from the biobeds, as the dog did shed and probably needed to be kept away from areas where people with allergies could be affected by the dander.

"Hinsitzen," (Sit down) he told the dog. Gunnar lowered his back end until he rested on his haunches. They waited patiently for someone to help them.

Zuub was in sickbay and was more than a little stunned to see a dog. Her antennae started twittering excitedly. There was a man with the dog, but that hardly mattered. She wondered if the man would allow her to keep the dog for a day so they could play together.

She spoke to the man in a soft, wispy voice, "I am Chief Medical Officer Zuub, how may I be of assistance to you both?" The six foot five inch Andorian looked down at the dog as she spoke and bent down towards it.

Gunnar started growling as she bent down, but as she got close, the canine barked and snapped at her, and would have bit her if Jax had not held him back. "Sehr!" The dog halted his forward lunge, growling for a moment longer before stopping completely. Those dark eyes continued to follow the blue woman, though.

"Feisty," Zuub replied in her soft wispy voice. She did not approach or back away but she did ask, "Again, how may I be of assistance?"

"We need our physicals." Jax paused for a moment. "Back up a little and kneel down. That would help him feel safer. Bending towards him like that means 'criminal' in his mind."

Gunnar appeared calm right now, his teeth completely covered by his lips, but his ears were pricked towards the doctor and his eyes were glued to her.

"I will bring him over to you after a minute so he can smell you."

"Fascinating," Zuub responded, her antennae twittering happily. "I should like to learn to command him." Zuub backed up a bit, as she was instructed and then knelt down.

The German Shepherd's nose started twitching. Jax frowned, shaking his head. "No, I will not teach you the commands. Now, this is important. Talk to him in a high, playful voice."

If an Andorian could frown, Zuub would have done so. Instead, her antennae drooped in disappointment. She told Jax in her wispy voice, "Unfortunately, this is as loudly as I can speak."

Jax frowned. "Okay." He led the dog over to Zuub. "Wittern," (Sniff) he told the dog. "Freund." (Friend.) The dog sniffed her, and allowed her to put her hands on him. "Hinsetzen. (Sit)

The dog now seemed at ease and was sitting calmly, looking at Zuub and doing the famous Terran canine head-tilt. He started sniffing around her face and licked her right antenna.

When the dog licked Zuub's antennae, they both writhed. Licking the antennae was about the most intimate thing a being could do to an Andorian and Zuub was doing all that she could to remain in control of her bestial interest. She backed up and stood up, her antennae constantly writhing with desire, "Um, I think we should conduct your exams now."

Gunnar could smell the pheromones on Zuub and grunted. Jax looked down at the dog and frowned. "Good idea." He guided the dog over to a biobed and picked up the dog and put him on the bed before getting up on it himself. When Jax put his hand on his rump and whistled, the dog sat once again. "Okay, you may proceed. I'm a little worried about the second toe on his right front paw. He stepped on something and yelped yesterday."

Distractedly, Zuub pulled out a tricorder, "Second toe, you say?" Her antennae twirled and writhed as she tried to focus on her task. "Let's see... Yes, there, is some, uh, internal bleeding, a small puncture. Not much of a problem."

Jax touched Gunnar's leg and said, "Der Uhrzeiger," a command for him to give the doctor his paw. The dog readily raised his leg, but his eyes were glued to the doctor as his paw still hurt.

Zuub observed the dog's padding on its foot and then pulled out a dermal regenerator and started slowly holding it over the injured areas. Her antennae leaned forward with keen interest as the procedure continued for the twenty seconds or so. "There you go. All better."

The dog made a noise halfway between a grunt and a sigh, indicating that he had some relief from it. Jax went to work putting the new boots on the dog that would protect his feet from objects in the future. Once the canine's feet were safe, Jack turned to the blue woman and sighed. He didn't dislike doctors, but he hated the time wasted by physicals. All she needed was to get familiar with his body, right? Why couldn't she just read his file?

"Me, I'm fine," the young human said. "I think I pulled a muscle working out last night, but I'm fine."

Zuub could not take her eyes off the dog when she heard Jax speak. "What was your name? I'll pull your file, run a quick scan and then fix you right up." Both antennae continued to writhe but one leaned in towards Jax and started to lean towards him curiously.

"Petty Officer Third Class Bartholomew Jackson, ma'am, but I prefer Jax. Don't ever call me Bart."

"I will make a note of that," Zuub told him, pulling out a medical tricorder again and running it over Jax while taking numerous looks over at the dog. In her soft wispy voice she told Jax, "Seems you pulled a hamstring. What exactly were you doing during your workout?" Zuub asked slightly intrigued.

"I was lifting some weights and my spotter had to answer a comm. By the time he got back, I had a burning feeling in my right thigh."

"You should not lift without a spotter. You should have stopped," Zuub lightly chastised. She took out a cellular regenerator and started healing the pull. "You are going to need a couple of days of staying away from the weights."

Jax was standing, allowing Zuub access to the back of his right thigh. It felt a little tense at first, like the muscle was clenching, but eventually it eased and felt as normal as his other leg.

He turned to face her. "Thanks, Doc. Is that all of it?" He was very anxious to be out of there and finish his shift in the brig. There was no one there, but he would be off duty in less than an hour and he still had reports to do, as well as cleaning the cells.

"For now," Zuub told Jax. "I will want to check up the progress on both of you in two days, so come on back then.

Jax got down from the bed, then ordered Gunnar to get down. Talking in a playful voice, he said, "Good boy." Then he turned to the Andorian doctor. "Thanks, doc. See you around." He and the dog left sickbay, back to the brig that was the dog's fiefdom.
